Agricultural Education/FFA

The Agricultural Education program at Falcon High School in Falcon School District 49 is a four-year program designed to introduce students to a variety of agriculture career professions. The program strives to ensure a smooth transition from high school education into meaningful agricultural industry-related employment or related post-secondary education. Courses offer college credit through an agreement with Pueblo Community College.

The Falcon High School Agriculture Department is taught by one instructor.  Mr. Dave Kranz has a very unique background. Growing up in a suburb of Minneapolis, MN, Mr. Kranz never grew up on a farm or ranch. That did not mean it was not in his future. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls with a degree in teaching secondary social studies, he moved out west to work on a ranch in Livingston, MT. He later picked up a certification in special education. The agriculture program at Falcon High School was started in 2015 with Mr. Kranz gaining his agriculture education certification and CTE credential. That year the program started with one class of Introduction to Agriculture. Since then, the program has grown to incorporate 3 different pathways: Animal Science with an emphasis in veterinary science, Plant Science with an emphasis in landscaping/irrigation and Agriculture Business.

Entrance to the Agricultural Education program is available to 9th-12th graders. Special arrangements may be made for those students entering the program after their freshman year. Agricultural Education students attend Falcon High School on a full-time basis. Students residing outside the Falcon High School neighborhood feeder system may request to choice into the school by completing a school of choice application.

Mr. Kranz encourages and assists students in arranging volunteer, internship, and job-shadowing opportunities to enhance their learning regarding their Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE). Students also have the opportunity to participate in the intra-curricular career technical student organization (CTSO) FFA-Future Farmers of America ran through the National FFA Organization. FFA is a valuable resource for students interested in out-of-classroom learning experiences. More information is available at National FFA.
